Mechanism of Action:

The treatment is performed with mud extracted from the depths of Lake Hévíz. Hévíz mud is a mixed type of therapeutic mud with organic and inorganic content, mostly of plant origin.

The effects of the mud are distinguished as physical, chemical, and physiological.

Physical effects of the mud wrap:
  • heat effect: the most widely recognized and considered most significant effect of mud. It has a high heat retention capacity, providing a lasting heat effect.
  • specific gravity: an effect arising from the weight of the mud, significant due to the pressure exerted on the tissues
  • abrasive effect: the tiny particles of the mud penetrate deep into the skin's recesses and stimulate the internal organs locally as well as through vegetative reflex processes
  • chemical effect: isotopic studies have confirmed that certain substances penetrate through the skin.
  • physiological effect: the warm mud causes muscles to relax, increases the extendability of collagen-rich tissues (e.g., tendons, muscles, joint capsules). A marked vasodilation occurs, which enhances metabolism and thus has a pain-relieving effect. It improves circulation, oxygen supply to body tissues, and alleviates pain in the treated joint.

The activity of cells involved in the function of the immune system increases, resulting in an anti-inflammatory effect.
The mud has an osmotic effect, drawing out the fat and moisture content of its surroundings. Consequently, excess moisture accumulated in the joints can be easily removed.

Treatment procedure:

The traditional mud treatment is performed with mud heated to 42 degrees Celsius (using a special cooking vessel to ensure constant and reliable temperature), which is applied to the appropriate body part.

Duration of treatment:

20 minutes.

Indication:

Chronic degenerative spine and limb joint diseases (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle arthrosis), spondylosis, muscle pain, inactive stages of inflammatory joint and spinal diseases, release of stiff limb joints after fracture, almost exclusively applicable treatment after hip and knee prostheses.

It can be effectively used for skin diseases such as psoriasis, seborrhea, hyperkeratosis.
